As part of the Hockey Hall of Fame 2013 festivities I painted one of my signature Live Mural eXperience (LMX) pieces throughout the night.
The mural featured Chris Chelios, Geraldine Heaney, Scott Niedermayer, and Brendan Shanahan who all signed the mural which was auctioned off. Also entering the Hall in 2013 are the late Fred Shero, Jay Greenberg and Harry Neale.
A big thank you to the Hockey Hall of Fame (@HockeyHallFame) and Phil Pritchard (@KeeperOfTheCup) for a beautiful evening.
Day 10: We are at the end, the conclusion, the finale … 10 Masks in 10 Days is done and we are going out with a bang!
Here is Phoenix Coyotes Mike Smith’s new goalie mask for the 2013-14 campaign.
It features his sons Ajax and Aksel who are using the Wile E. Coyote’s ears to navigate. Wile E has been a fixture on Smitty’s mask since he arrived in Phoenix, however with this instalment he did everything but paint the mask. I took Smitty’s ideas and applied a design where the entire mask is used as a canvas for a seamless image.
Continuing with the family theme I had the Smith boys paint the backplate of the mask (I will add photos shortly).
This mask received immediate attention and you should check out the coverage:
This wraps up #10MasksIn10Days thank you for all your support.
Keep an eye out for some more masks soon to be released as well as a piece I am painting live at the Hockey Hall of Fame induction on Monday.
You might not think a hockey mask could be an artist’s canvas, but that’s exactly what an artist in the Hockley Valley is using for his creations.

Before we cover Day 9 of #10MasksIn10Days I want to start by thanking everyone for their interest and support. It has been exciting times around these parts and it is great to feel the level of engagement with my work.
This past Monday, I was fortunate to be visited in my studio by Courtney Heels (
@CourtHeelsCTV) of CTV News who filmed a segment covering the goalie mask marathon which was aired on the evening news. Be sure to check it out.
We are now at Day 9, let’s recap the last 8 days of goalie masks for those who might be just joining us:
Tomorrow will be our wrap up and will feature a new twist on one of my most popular masks of all time. Spoiler alert: it belongs to a goalie who plays for the Phoenix Coyotes and the first time anyone will see this mask will be when I release Day 10 of #10MasksIn10Days
But back to Day 9 which features Toronto Maple Leafs Drew MacIntyre’s goalie mask for 2013-14.
The design was based on Drew’s guidance for simplicity with a retro feel which I incorporated the Leafs logo into.
Day 8 of Goalie Mask Marathon is Phoenix Coyotes Mark Visentin’s new helmet for the 2013 season.
The right side of the goalie mask is themed after the Portland Pirates where you will find cannonballs and burning skulls flying towards you. The name plate and the left side of the mask contain desert and Western elements tied back to the Phoenix Coyotes.
I tried something new with this mask which I would like to bring to your attention… it maybe be hard to make out in the images below but take a close look for the red hologram of the Coyotes logo that appears as the mask is tilted. Trust me that this effect looks pretty crazy in person.
Day 7 of the Goalie Mask Marathon:
This mask belongs to the infallible Antti Niemi of the 1st place San Jose Sharks. I have been creating masks for Antti since back in his early days with the Blackhawks. His masks are some of the most recognizable of my entire portfolio (winning a Stanley Cup can have that effect).
The design for Niemi’s 2013-14 lid revolves around the open jaws of shark. The SJ Sharks emblem is featured on the chin plate as well as the sides where it blends into the Coat of arms of Finland.
Only 4 more days left of #10MasksIn10Days, stay tuned!
Day 6 of our goalie mask marathon brings you a LA Kings up-and-coming tender.
Mathias Niederberger had a spectacular 2012-13 campaign to complete his OHL tenure with the Barrie Colts where he was named a finalist for OHL overage player of the year.
This mask is blend of the LA Kings motif with the Manchester Monarch’s emblem and reknown lion.
We are at the mid point of our goalie mask marathon.
Day 5 of #10MasksIn10Days brings you Scott Stajcer of the New Rangers new lid. It pays homage to three of the greats that tended the net for the New York Rangers in the past.
This mask also features the Statue of Liberty trying her hand in the NYR net.
Day 4 of the 10 Day Mask Marathon features a goalie mask that reflects the goaltender’s aspirations of one day becoming a Naval Aviator.
Day 3 of #10Masksin10Days: Mac Carruth of the Chicago Blackhawks pays homage to former greats of Chi-town.
Carruth was named to the 2013 WHL West First All-Star Team. He set the franchise record for most wins by a goalie on January 9, 2013 with his 106th win in a Winterhawks uniform.
In the words of Gord Downie, I stole this from a hockey card.
Charlie Graham of Belleville Bulls is our Day 2 instalment of the Goalie Mask Marathon.
